Yes dieselgate has caused massive reduction in R&D spend. So instead of a Mk8 we're getting a Mk7.5 with a moderate facelift instead.
Been looking at the main VW site (volkswagen.com) and the extra tech on the "MK7.5" Golf does sound kinda nice. Hope we get the Discover Pro media option here in the Highline at least. Also looks like the Alltrack will get the missing blind spot monitoring
Yeah sadly I ended up at the same point. Was very close to signing on the dotted line for a 162TSI Highline + DAP for $52.35k but it just didn't feel right. The car is about $4k over priced IMHO

I find it a little odd that having spent a decent amount on the virtual cockpit, the main feature of having info + nav displayed together is still not available unless you have Discover Pro (which up until now has not been made available by VWA) and what put me in an Audi (since it's nav/info screen wasn't a downgrade compared to the Mk6 RNS510).
The other tech stuff at a glance seems pretty interesting, again if made available down here.
Does anyone know if the new mk7.5 R(IS3and GTI(IS20) will have their turbo issues resolved?
The Mk7.5 has turbo issues already? I will keep the Mk7 if that is the case as it has been trouble free.
Sorry what I meant was will they be using the same turbos that are in the current Mk7 R and GTI in the 7.5?
Based on what I've researched so far, there has been no turbo revision that VW has released which has not had any reported incidences.
Every turbo car has turbo issues, if you think VW are bad they have nothing on Mazda and that is from someone who has Mazda workshop experience. Our Mk7 has been faultless despite the flogging it regularly gets but I am sure others have had failures on Golf Turbos as has every other car with a turbo as that is the nature of the beast. They spin fast and get hot and some give problems.

I hear you and agree that they are inherently more susceptible to issues given the higher boost pressures and what not (particularly when tuned). But straight stock from a manufacturer? Frankly I don't reckon that's acceptable.
The Mk6s with their Borg Warner turbos did not have anywhere near as big an issue as these IHI ones. Not when tuned and even less when run stock.
I myself am trying to find an excuse to buy the Mk7/7.5 given I love a tuned Golf like any other guy but until they get to the root of the issue its hard to part with hard earned dosh with these things nagging at the back of your mind.
I don't follow the Golf Forums so can't comment on how many Golf turbos go bang but I will say one thing from working in the motor industry and it is this: The car has a warranty, if the turbo goes bang you get it repaired for nothing so apart from a bit of inconvenience what is the problem especially these days when loan cars are available.
Don't think you need someone in the motor industry to tell you about warranty replacement but what you're saying now effectively rules out buying a used car which has no more dealer warranty on it or tuning the car (since tuning it renders it void by warranty). I'd much rather a car I can enjoy for a period longer than its warranty cover duration.
