A saving of 25% of mdrp is not achievable on new models... Though again, you have been in the market for 2 years. These won't be new models when you have finalised your negotiations...
I'm not sure what your point is here, 'in the market' could mean a lot of different things.
In my case it means that I've had a casual interest in MK7's for a long time, and only recently have I seen prices that have really prompted me to actively start looking to negotiate and buy.

I think that's a very reasonable and pragmatic approach to purchasing a vehicle. I'm not in desperate need of a car and that means I have the luxury of taking my time. You might do it a different way, but that's your business.

Also, if you'd bothered to read what I wrote properly- the $39k and $40k figures I referred to were for two completely different vehicles. The $39k amount was an actual offer for a vehicle whereas the $40k was an aspirational (read: optimistic) target for a differently optioned and more expensive vehicle. I thought I made that quite clear.

I'll leave what is an achievable discount off a new vehicle for the dealer to decide. Maybe I won't get as much off as I'd like, but I might come close and it sure can't hurt to try.

Now if you're able to answer my original question about the differences between model years, that would be wonderfully helpful.

Ive picked up my new MY18 7.5 Golf R hatch fully loaded last week.

What a difference the 7sp DSG makes. (had the 7R wagon before)

Its got more of a gruntier sound too.

Will be going straight to stage 2 in the coming weeks....

Schmik, man. I think I now like all the colors the R is offered in, except the black. Every time I see one in another color I wonder if I should've got that one instead of Lapiz. Re - the sound - there's been some comments before about the .5 changes to the exhaust - do you really think the exhaust is louder, or just a more vocal soundaktor ? The tailpipes appear larger in our model - so maybe there was some sound added to combat the RS, as rumored.

That grey looks the best I think.

Does anyone know what the “Race" sport cloth and Alcantara seat upholstery” are like, is there any current models that I could get a look/feel.

Keen to pre order a Grid, just hope the seats are ok (not velour like)

Have a question about the MY18 Golf R.
I have heard that the Dynauido is available as an option on the MY18.
    Is this true?
And what else is different about the MY18 vs MY17?

@Facelift, you’re right! Coding issue. Brought my car in this morning and have it fixed before noon.

Good that it was just a coding issue! It is strange that the coding gets messed up if battery is disconnected (in my case) or for no reason (in your case)! Lets hope it doesn't happen again.

Yeah fully agreed! In all fairness, my battery might have gone flat, I hardwired my dashcam to it and set the regulator to a minimal 12v cutoff. Acc to the technician, the side assist & blind spot coding somehow “disappear” and they have to reload the relevant coding in again. They said they had a couple of cars coming in for similar issue so hopefully this fixes it.
