You didn't read the linked article did you, according to OS reports the R400 introduction may not happen though that is not in Kable's piece....
<At the top of the petrol line-up will be a more powerful version of the four-wheel-drive Golf R, whose turbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder motor is said to develop the same 414bhp as the R400 concept first wheeled out at the 2014 Beijing motor show.>
Taken from here....

I should have been more specific in my wording as "a production version of the R400". There seem to be conflicting reports of its potential production - or a production version of that concept - depending on what you read and the source of that information.
If it's a 400BHP two litre all wheel drive Golf R that gets placed into production, there is a very good chance it has some DNA from the R400. Whether VW chooses to call it that for a production version of the Golf R or not remains to be seen.
That seems to be the root cause of both the speculation and the confusion. Sorry if I wasn't clearer in my post...
It's hardly surprising the facelift has so few extras. When the 2018 model comes out they're going to want to have as many 'new' features as possible to make it worthwhile for current owners to upgrade, and attract buyers to the new model. This includes the digital dash I guess, as seen in the 'all new' model Tiguan. The 2017 facelift is not the 'new' gen, so it probably won't get the new gen kit :(
Doesn't look very different to me:

Yup. I like the front bumper treatment of the yellow car most.
Digital dash is looking awesome
