Hi All, has any one replaced there continental tyres for Michelin tyres? Heard that it reduces the road noise by a lot ( golf R 7.5 wagon)

I can recommend them. I have them on my WRX STI and the road noise was greatly improved. The handling is very good too. I’ll probably be switching to them after I use up the current stock tyres.

The 19” rims are a bit loud on rough road surfaces. Still a lot quieter than my WRX though haha.

Has my Golf R with dsg new Dec 2018 got eco coasting please? I've tried driving with ECO driving profile on and the lever in D/S position and expect to see the revs go to zero as the engine turns off now and then when over 40kmph but I don't.
cars (chronological) Morris850, Morris Mini DeLuxe, Cooper S, Mazda 1500SS, hard times so some old Holden, old Falcon Ute, better times so second hand Lotus Elan +2 (6 weeks, hopelessly unreliable) Chrysler Valiant Charger 770, second hand Datsun 260Z + 2 auto, Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo, Nissan 200SX turbo auto for 20 years(wonderful car burning ZERO oil after 200,000km & no problems when sold.. should have kept it), Toyota GTS 86 auto, now Golf R Mk 7.5 DSG built Aug2018, white.

I thought it just disengaged the transmission not switch the engine off?!

I've previously seen my RPM drop to zero when lifting off the gas, but it was a while ago now, and haven't seen it since. Just the disengaging others have mentioned. 'Only thing I remember being different was I'd been driving for at least an hour, with 30mins freeway, and I haven't tried ECO mode in those conditions since, just trundling around town. Maybe the oil temp has to be well and truly warm before it'll go into full coasting mode ??

Hmm. I checked my manual & it says "When the Eco/coasting is active, the engine is not only disengaged but also switched off." (My underlining). It says it in two places and also says the engine may start automatically to ensure the electrics have a reliable supply, so I don't think it's an error in the manual.

It's no big deal for me as I'm in Adelaide, but in Victoria you could just about coast from Ballarat to Melbourne.

I've had a play with it, it's a bit eerie coasting at first.
Doesnt work with cruise control of course, and going down hills it's quite possible to roll past the speed limit - gotta watch that.

I the feeling of rolling is noticeable and I also see an "e" icon on the bottom of the tacho when it's happening.
