Re. #2 - I'm increasingly seeing posts claiming the soundaktor plays fake noise through the speakers. Isn't this untrue? I thought it was a vibration device (a puck) at the base of the windshield which reverberated under engine load. So yes, it is "fake" in a way, but not in the sense of artificial noise played through the speakers. Regardless, I don't understand the often vehement opposition to it. I enjoy the sound and don't have a problem with it, but to each their own I guess.

I have a 7.5R DSG and it farts most of the time. Completely stock. Im running in individual mode with everything enabled except ride is on comfort and trans is not in race mode. Race mode it farts more.

Agree, I have a 7.5 R wagon and farts are standard in all modes though better at higher rev gear changes. Farts seem enhanced when the DSG is in S, prob because you get higher revs anyway between changes, and peculiar to the wagons it seems, you get better overrun pops and bangs with the Engine Sound Race selected in Individual mode (or in Race mode turns it on as standard).
This is not just Soundaktor in wagons, as they don't have flaps like the hatches, so it seems they have programmed in some extra fuel and timing to get it to occur.

I don't know about current wagons but the original batches weren't valved, so that plus the open rear space will definitely give more sound effect from the exhaust over a hatch. The flipside is if you plan to fiddle with the exhaust, I'd be a lot more careful in a wagon v hatch.

Absolutely - its always been a wagon bugbear, with virtually any marque, that wagons get more significant boom issues, and as a factory hotrod, the Golf wagon makes acceptable sporty noise out back without issues. Presumably the engineers tuned the exhaust to do just that and I note the wagon mufflers are asymmetric internal volumes.

I was keen to do the centre resonator removal mod prior to buying, but reports are not good in that it induces horrible drone in wagons (that depends on your perspective in some cases) and even BCS cannot produce a magic helmholtz resonated centre res pipe that works well on wagons to reduce drone yet let the music out!

Lacking flaps as the wagon do is a down side here, as the hatches can drop out the centre res and then use the flaps to cut the drone as needed say when cruising.

Upside for wagons is we get a fruitier note a lot more of the time as stock as they have appeared to give the stock system more volume. Current 7.5 wagons get 4 active tailpipes but no flaps. Earlier 7's and the Wolfies (I think?) get 2 pipes plus 2 fakes and no flaps.

I could be wrong but it may have been the flip to 7.5 where it changed, my first and only R was from the batch of 7.5 Wolfsburgs so not in the best position to comment. If I recall my 15 S3, being equivalent to a 7, only ran single pipes each side as well.

Having been spoiled with the tuneful pipes of the RS3 since I'll almost certainly keep the ED40 as is.

Ive got a mate with an RS3 - sport mode is pretty loud with a tune that is full of plentiful pops, bangs and farts - its quite an occasion!

That it was, made the daily a bit more entertaining. Unfortunately an interstate move left it sitting idle for a couple of months and I couldn't justify having that much cash tied up in it.

Flipside is it is nice to be back with the Golfers where the heart is.

I just bought myself a Mk7.5 R Grid with driver assist pack. Loving it. But have a few questions the manual in the glove box doesn’t seem to have answers for. At least not that I could find.

1) Drive modes. In Individual, my MY18 now has different options to any YouTube videos I can find. Has anyone got a source of information that explains in detail what every single option means and does. Some of them are bleeding obvious. But others not so much. For example the cornering lights. What’s the diff between normal eco and race! Likewise for ACC options. And some of the others I find not so obvious.

Lights dart around a lot more in Race mode, I think.

Which ones do you not understand ?

Hi All

This is my first post re a Golf GTI 7.5, I had the 15000km service today and the software updates were done. The dealer said whilst the car is under warranty, any map and firmware updates are not charged, they will be when the warranty expires. Is there a way that I can update the maps and firmware, using the supplied SD card or another card or a USB drive please.

Hi Everyone!
I have some stains on the back seats. At first I thought it was water from my daughter's drink bottle, but it isn't.
I have bought an upholstery foam with applicator from Turtle at SuperAuto and it's done bugger all.
I think it may be vegetable oil or apple juice or something, 2-3 decent size patches....
Does anyone have any good recommendations of products that will actually work. It's a 2017 Mk7.5 Comfortline, nice cloth. Pretty annoyed at the moment. Thanks heaps.
