Can you quote a current official govt Australian source to support that view ? Just trying to keep things 100% clear so we all know what the current rule is.
I've checked both the NSW, Qld and Vic govt sites and all three state that it IS legal to overtake on the left if "you are on a multi-lane road and the vehicle can be safely overtaken in a marked lane", with no restrictions otherwise (no mention of 80 kph or anything else). So as far as I can tell here in Oz it is OK.
Of course if all drivers obeyed the "keep left unless overtaking" rule there would be no need to undertake anyway
