Leak coolant reservoir
Keen for advice on this one.
Recently had routine service on a 5 year old/50K kms Golf 7.5 and VW have flagged a leak into the sensor on top of the coolant reservoir and have recommended replacement of the reservoir. Some urgency to this apparently with the service advisor indicating that waiting until the coolant level starts to drop is not recommended - the fact that the sensor is involved risks coolant leeching into not only this wiring harness but others as well on the same "circuit" leading to big $$$ repairs. A look at the connector shows some slight seepage only, but no signs of that typical crusting you see with coolant leaking. And the service advisor's nightmare scenario of coolant seeping upwards into a pair of thin insulated wires to then go marauding throughout other circuits seems very far fetched to me.
My gut feel is to wait for the water pump/thermostat housing to give up again and to sort a new coolant reservoir then but keen to know everyone's thoughts, in particular whether anyone has ever heard of the leaking coolant reservoir causing widespread electrical damage.
Cheers
