MIB2 to MIB2.5 Upgrade

Hi all,

I currently have a Golf R mk7 2016 with 6.5inch MIB2 headunit (with CarPlay, etc… from factory). I am looking to upgrade to the MIB2.5 9.2inch screen found in the mk7.5 Golfs. I have read numerous forums and a lot of conflicting things due to overseas members.

I was wondering if anyone in Australia has done this upgrade and what is involved? Do you need to change the “brains” in the glove box or is it a straight plug and play of the screens only? and I understand you need component protection removed and new trim pieces.

A guy on gumtree is claiming I can buy his 9.2
MIB2.5 headunit for $750 and straight plug and play the screen into my car as it already has CarPlay existing so no need to change glove box “brains”. Can someone confirm this?
