    Metal filings in DSG filter?!

A little bit concerned… Just had the big 120k service done on my Golf Alltrack TSI. Mechanic found a small amount of metal swarf in bottom of the filter when changing the transmission oil. The pieces are minuscule — maybe 1-2mm across, small metal filings. They’re quite fine to the point where they can be broken up in your fingers. All up, there were maybe 10-20 little pieces.

Mechanic wasn’t overly worried as there are no error codes, the transmission is working fine currently, and the 6 speed DQ250 wet clutch is a lot more robust than the problematic 7 speed.

Anyone with knowledge/experience around this? Should I be worried or look for a solution before it becomes a bigger problem?

It's probably a non-issue; over time, it's normal for some metal wear to occur inside the transmission, metal on metal wear surfaces. The DQ250 does have a few magnets that pick up metal shaving, too; those can't be accessed without a teardown.

It's not uncommon for those to have input or output sharf bearing failures, but you can easily hear those; you get a loud whining noise at speed.

Here is an example of what you don't want.

Could be just a bit of clutch material.
