Does the discover care app still work for everyone? Mine hasn't been working for the last few months. Every time I open it, it spits out an error advising it can't connect to the update server. I have tried downloading the app again, same issue.

Same error for me.
I contacted VW Aus this week with a generic enquiry about map updates, asking for the VW site to download the maps - their response was “contact your dealer”.
I downloaded the current ROW package from the German site back in January and compared the contents of the map data to the previous update package I downloaded via Discovercare back in July (IIRC). Aus map data is identical. So no actual Aus map changes available via VW download site since mid last year.
It’s an interesting situation - I’d like to be able to understand what is happening. If updates are only available via the dealer now, I don’t care - I just want openness from VW. If they have stopped support for Discovercare, I don’t care - again, I just want openness.
hopefully we can get some answers soon.

I downloaded the zip file to my Notebook, then unzipped the file copied it to 32 GB SDRam it takes about 45 min to copy from SDRam to the Discover Pro Gen2
Attachment 33615
When I did the manual update option which is hidden it came up with ERR (error) when trying to read so canceled the upgrade .... despite downloading cleanly so I'll wait...
Interestingly, I enquired with my local dealer yesterday about a maps update my nav, when the car was in for a service. Their advice was the update server was down, and to come back in 3-4 weeks and a new version would be available.

Map updates have always been a thorn in VW Australia’s eyes. They have never supported it because they want to make money on the updates which is why the official advise is “contact your dealer”. VW Germany provide free updates world wide but VW Australia don’t want you to know about it. You try and get a straight answer on their Facebook site. It’s not possible. It’s always “contact your dealer”. They will not respond when asked about the DiscoverCare App or the website. I have contacted VW Germany in the past and asked them why VW Australia refuse to pass on free maps. Basically they were confused with that questions as they had no idea why we struggle to get maps in Australia.
I am having VM Passat 2013 model which I bought recently as second hand in Australia.

Thanks in advance
Gday everyone, just wanted to throw my experience in here. I have a 2017 Passat. I had issues getting the DiscoverCare app to download the update file (CRC kept failing) so I contacted VW Australia. I was put in touch with

Who told me, in three separate emails:
"To update your in vehicle Navigation maps, you will need to visit a on of our Dealerships. Any other method of updating is not for our vehicles in Australia."
"The software you have referred to is not for vehicles in the Australian market. To update the navigation maps on Australian vehicles you will need to visit a Volkswagen Dealership."
"For your vehicle, to obtain any map or software updates you will need to visit a Dealership service centre."
I pointed out that people here and in whirlpool were reporting they had been able to update their systems, and that people had shown they'd been quoted nearly $500 to have it updated at the dealership, but the "Customer Service Ambassador" insisted that everyone on this forum was mistaken.
The DiscoverCare app eventually successfully prepared an SD card for me, and surprise surprise the update on my Australian VW Passat worked flawlessly. I sent "Daniel" photos of the system information before and after the update, but he hasn't replied to me. So is he embarrassed because he was caught lying or because VW Australia simply do not bother training their staff?
