Hey mate did you ever get to update your maps?
From memory you'll have to have vw install updated software on the nav unit

Yes, after the firmware update, you can now load new maps as you normally would.

I was having no luck uploading speed cams to my MIB1 unit. After a lot of digging around on the net I did the following which worked for me, and could for some others out there.....
1) Following the initial guide here >
MIB II - Custom POI's / Speed Cameras etc
2) Extract the resulting zip files (only the following ones) within the "PersonalPOI" directory, select the "MIB2HIGH" directory and extract ONLY the metaininfo file and PersonalPOI directory (with the files within the PersonalPOI directory left intact) to a FAT32 formatted USB drive (an SD card would simply not work in my case).
Others have copied the files within the MIB2TSD directory instead of the MIB2HIGH directory to get it to work, but that did not work for me.

Any chance you could share the POI tool as the link Infotainment redirects to a generic infotainment page. So it looks like the tool has been pulled from the site?

I would be happy to. I used the tool a few weeks ago to create my custom POI's and only became aware today that it has disappeared when I went to book mark it for future use....
Apparently VW Germany have done this before but the tool came back on a different part of their website. Bloody VW![]()
It seems they may want us to use CarNet (updates over Wifi?) which I think is not even available in Australia. Never ceased to amaze me how difficult the VW makes it for many owners to update their maps etc. I have found so many threads on overseas forms for Skoda and Seat on the same subject.
Anyway in my extensive internet travels I found this Skoda page with the same type of web based tool. I haven't tested it though.

Someone also mentioned there is a stand alone program that does whilst not having a user friendly interface, does the job. If I find it I will definitely save it and let others know.
New maps dated 25/04/2018 are available at Volkswagen Map & Softwareupdates
Now have to wait a day for the download to complete, after 2 or 3 expected failures.

For some reason my Discover Pro doesn't recognize the the update. I have been able to update in the past but refuses the recognize the data on the SD card. Does anyone have any ideas? Is it possible for the service department to block updates? I have VCDS, is there a setting?
*UPDATE*
So in the end I gave up on my Mac. I dusted off my old Win10 Laptop and extracted the archive onto a freshly formatted SD card.
To my surprise, it worked.
Turns out Apple's MacOS operating system has a habit of copying extra "hidden" files for things like "Spotlight" search as well as TimeMachine support files. On top, you end up with lots of tiny text files, one for each folder that have the same name as the folder only with a "." in-front of the file name. All this prevents the Infotainment system from reading the files on the SD card. UNREAL!!!

No problems with my Discover Pro, but it hasn't been back to the dealer since delivery (Dec 2017).
Download took 16 hours, no errors this time.
Update took about 30 minutes.
Seems a bit absurd to download a 23GB file when the data for Australia is only 2GB.
