I ran my JB1 for 2 years. I never had a problem per se but I did have the turbo replaced under warranty (which I was at the dealer’s choice after I reported the metallic ringing sound). However, like LibraR, I can’t say for certain that the JB1 caused it. It had symptoms like the early Mk7s were known for so I suspect it was more design failure than JB1.
Because my car was a manual, I ran it in conservative Map 6 to reduce stresses on the clutch. The car without it was a bit sluggish. With it, it was manic and very involving.
If I had kept it longer, I’d have replaced the clutch and let the JB1 do its thing properly!
As for removal, I took it out for every service (and it was never mentioned by my dealer). I would jack the car up so it would take me about 15-20mins to do. Easy enough though. The only issue I had was that I was a bit rough one day and broke the secondary retaining clip on one of the plugs. The fit was so tight though, it didn’t need to be there and I never had an issue with it disconnecting during driving.
