The Golf has always been an understated look. It's never a look at me in the way a Megane RS is.

Fwiw the interior where you would spend most of your time is definitely special.
Sorry, was talking GTI. And to be fair, that car could obviously look a lot different. I guess the point was, it looks more like a mid model facelift rather than a completely new car.

I understand the evolution of a Golf is slow, but this is bordering on Porsche 911 territory. I'd still have one of those though!

Won't the GTI be 40k+ORC roughly? Hardly 50K either.

I'd love to know if the USB port also functions as an iPod adapter (which was the only good thing about a Hyundai I rented a couple of weeks ago). I can't believe the MDI is dropped with the Mk7. FFS: the iPod is the most popular music player in the world! Why wouldn't VAG support it?

I unfortunately think that your worst fears have come true... It's hard to tell exactly how the external media work with the new infotainment systems... I'll investigate them in more detail. Here is the sentence that makes the Golf sound quite guilty:

USB Audio socket (Note: not compatible with smartphone devices, e.g. iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, etc.)

I'll test it all out and post!
