R-Lines did not have inner DRL LEDs in the headlights.
Hello fellow members, I'm hoping someone who owns a MY19/MY20 Golf 7.5 Highline model with Sound Vision Package and help me out with a recent debacle with VW's service centre.
My car threw up a error message last week asking me to check left and right low beam lights. The low beam/high beam lights were all working fine, however I found that the inner LED daylight running lights were not lit up. From memory both the inner and outer daylight running lights always stays on, thought I do not have any photos to prove this. Took my car to my local VW service centre and they said my car did not have inner DRL as a standard feature so there is nothing to fix.
I have searched images on Google, only found 1 listing on carsales.com which matches my model and the inner DRL isn't lit up on that car either. However, some photos of MK7.5 Highline model from UK dealers are showing both inner and outer DRL lit up.
If you happen to own a MK7.5 Highline model with MY19/MY20, can you kindly share the photos of the front headlights of your car? Thanks.

Steven:
Yes, as already indicated above and notwithstanding that this car has the look that the headlights have inner DRLs to match the outer "Angel eyes" - these inner light fittings do NOT have active LEDs (they are blank)
In VW marketing speak, the lack of active DRLs in the inner fittings is a positive advantage. It's called the car's "signature" -go figure!!

Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is on-line, in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the expertise of the wider forum! Thank you.
Thanks all for the info. I had another close look at the headlight and when I shine a torch through the lens I can see LED bulbs in the inner DRL strip. The inner DRL is lit on the same highline models sold in UK, I wonder if this can be switched on via some tweaks in VDS.
Steven: Of course anything is possible - however as much as you might want to believe that the inner fittings are populated with LEDs, it's highly unlikely that this is the case (as has been said by ALL responses to this thread).
With no offense intended - there are fundamentally 3 x problems with your desire for a coding solution to this problem:
First - where VW included headlight assemblies with active "angel-eyes" in both the outer and inner DRL fittings in their cars - they were operated in parallel on each car-side. Meaning that the wiring loom from the controlling module to the headlight connector had just ONE set of wires for both angel-eyes on each car-side. So, if both the inner and outer angel eyes were populated with LEDs, they operated together (i.e. the operation of the outer/inner DRL can not be separated)
Second - in the latter part of the mk7.5 production range, VW introduced Light Control Modules (LCMs) into their headlight fittings. This had the effect of reducing the role of the 09 module in participating in the operation of the headlights. The 09 module was the primary focus for tweaks to the 35 x exterior lights on a Golf. With the introduction of LCMs, changes to the factory operation of the lamps in the headlight fittings ceased because third party diagnostic devices (like VCDS and OBD11) could not access coding in these modules
Third - As @Flipper-Dog has advised above, the brochure for the AU model MY20 Golf indicates that there were 2 x headlight options for the 110TSI engine Golf (i.e. non GTI & R models) as follows:
- Halogen twin headlights with LED daytime driving lights > Trendline Golf & Comfortline Golf
- LED headlights for low and high beam with single LED daytime driving light signature and automatic self-levelling >Highline Golf
Maybe look at the brochure HERE -go to page 25 (specification)

Also, GTI's from this time period lost the inner DRLs, R-Line has never had both active in Australia.
More to the point, what was the reason for your original error? Has it gone away?

@Don, Thanks for the informative explanation, it is much appreciated.
@genebaby, the low bean headlight error appeared once and has not reappeared ever since. The dealer peformed a system check and said there were no errors anymore. Visually I could not see anything wrong with the LED headlights, they "danced up and down" when it was switched on (maybe they are performing self levelling?) and both were lit up properly.
Very good, they sound like they are working fine.
