Just picked mine up my white manual GTI40 today. Haven't had much time to drive it cause I had to go straight to work. But I could tell that I'm going to love it already![]()
My car is pretty much useless in the rain. Lots of wheel spin in the straight and under-steers so bad in the corners!!!

What tyres do they run on the 40th Editions? Wondering if maybe PSS might make a difference to wet weather grip. Also, is that under power the understeer? I would have thought the tendency might be towards some power oversteer in the wet. maybe some tweaking of the front alignment could assist this?
I have driven high performance FWDs with LSDs fitted that tended to power oversteer in the wet. Just what is desired, with a little checking back into play from the stability control to keep it all civilised on the road. No point attracting attention...
I have not driven a 40th Ed but kind of expected they may be set up to achieve this...

I'm running Hankook S1 Evo2s on my car now. I've got aftermarket rims - Advan Racing RS-DF 19x8.5 ET45. I think I'll be replacing these tyres with Michellin PSS when the time comes. It was definitely under-steering coz when I took a right hand corner this morning, the front just kept pushing to the left and wouldn't really turn in.
My commute to work involves a bit of highway driving and twisty roads. I was prolly doing 30km/hr in the twisties this morning? In dry I think I can tackle those corners with much higher speed.
A wheel alignment sounds like a good idea. Maybe I should get that done and see if that makes any difference.
And by the way, a white Golf R with european plates NOO-000 (from memory) was toying with me on the M2 this morning. I overtook him and then he shot past me on the Lane Cove Road exit. Not sure if his car was stock but it was definitely very quick.
Having owned the MK6 R previously, the only thing I missed about the R was the AWD system in the wet. If it was in the dry, I don't think the R would stand a chance against the 40 Years on twisty roads.

It's not physically possible for a front-wheel-drive car to power oversteer. That requires power to be transmitted to the rear wheels. The only time you can have oversteer (not power oversteer) in a FWD is when the weight transfers forwards (so, under braking on turn-in), or at best, when the weight is evenly distributed across the axles when cornering on a trailing throttle (see Lift-off oversteer).
