That bulb is the cornering headlight, there purely to appear as close to OEM as possible. I was going to eventually get some wires and connect it to the high beam wires as the extra lighting to the side would be nice if driving with high beams in the country. I would only do so if it didn't impair the performance of the high beams, would need to check with an automotive electrician.

Alternatively, hooking them up with the fog lights would be another good setup but would require more wiring and a way to get the wiring out of the headlight without compromising waterproof-ability.

Doing this mod would require taking the headlights out which I'm quite sick of now, during the last week I've taken them in and out so many times that I could almost do it with my eyes closed.

Can anyone who has done the coding confirm what it actually changed? Does it just leave the DRL's on at a reduced brightness with the low/high beams? Do the DRL's still turn off on the same side as the indicator when its on?

Genuine VW Bi-xenon headlights have static and dynamic cornering function. Bulb you are referring to is for static cornering light.
They also have automatic self leveling and headlight washers, both of them are required as per ADR.

Your car does not have wiring for Bi-xenon headlights hence you can not connect those bulbs.
Suggesting to connect them to high beam or fog lights is a poor advice. There are rules for just about everything on the car and they are there for a reason. As drivers we have obligations and responsibilities when driving and maintaining our cars and we need to follow them .

You consciously decided to change perfectly working and legal headlights with one of poor quality and inability of proper alignment, so basically you made your new cars unroadworthy. I do not care how you spend your money but because we share the roads your half baked modification affects other road users by means of dazzle and glare.

Also, headlight range control next to the light switch can not be used to align headlight beam. It is used to adjust the light cones according to the load the vehicle is carrying. To adjust the headlight aim there are adjusters on the headlight housing.

Yes and yes, but with the video that veew posted a few pages ago you can leave the DRLs on with the indicator.

I totally agree, an expensive waste of money and all you do is make the car illegal.

Looks like the lights are pretty crap as well.

Thanks mate that was Marks solution to my issue but its not fixing the problem only masking it and I don't want the DRL's on with the indicator I'm sure that will get you unwanted attention from the police and if they don't stay on then 1 of mine will still light up anyway.

Hey Flipper, the headlights without any VCDS tweaks should behave as shown in this video: WPlamp light and indicator operation - YouTube
When you turn the headlight switch to:
    Off
    - DRLs activated, turn off with the indicator
Auto - DRLs off when low beams automatically turn on. The DRLs also turn off when the indicator is on.
Parking lights - DRLs on all the time regardless of whether the indicators are on or not
Driving lights - DRLs do not turn on at any time

High beam - activates shutter on the bi-xenons as well as the high beam H7 lights on the medial aspect of the headlights.

Farol's VCDS walkthrough video shows how the different values change the brightness of the DRLs while low beams and indicators are on. Essentially the tweaks will dim the DRLs when the low beams or indicators are on.

You're right, I just checked. It appears my driver side inner DRL and passenger side outer DRL is on at a very low intensity when the low beams and indicators are on. It isn't too much of an issue for me as it is quite subtle and the main thing for me was the low and high beam lights could be aimed appropriately and the light output is excellent. I'll eventually get around to doing the VCDS tweaks, tossing up whether I should buy one as it'll cost me about $120 - $200 if I got Transporter to do it, thats a fair way towards a VAG-com cable.
