+1, I loved our three VWs but they were easily the worst depreciating cars we ever owned, and we've owned quite a few.

All Euro cars have depreciated heavily in recent years, mainly because the strength of the $A to the € has allowed a Euro makers to hold and sometimes drop new car prices. That said, Redbook data shows the Mk V, VI, & VII Golfs have held pretty well. Golf R to Audi S3 is a really interesting comparison: when introduced, the Mk VI R really cannibalised Audi sales and has held up pretty well, relative to 8P S3 resale values.

    Hey all,

Long time since I posted. The 5 year lease on our 2010 Golf R (man I love that car! ) is ending in Jan 2016 and I've managed to talk the Mrs out of downgrading to a Mazda CX5 and getting the R wagon! Has anyone been able to put in an order for anything other than the Wolfsberg edition? I'm going to contact NLC today and see if they can chase up availability for ordering a standard R wagon with options. Want to get in the queue so its ready for end of Jan 2016

    Cheers.

For the Golf R wagon it's a Wolfsburg or nothing. I don't believe there are any plans on bringing them out as a standard line. This is a limited run "special" edition. Once they're gone they are gone.

Dealers are not discounting these cars as the demand is high. I've even heard of some dealers charging $4k dealer delivery.

Best price I've seen is $63.7k without sunroof and $65.5k with. Though you'll have to hunt around for a dealer with the colour/roof combination you're after as there's limited stock and they're selling out quickly. I reckon they will be sold out before they hit the showrooms.

Yeah I'm checking now with NLC about ordering . Still haven't got an answer from VW Australia yet though on if the standard R wagon will be available. Stuff like this was a little confusing not really clarifying if it was Wolfsberg only and leaving the door open for extra shipments.

"Rocketing to Australia in limited numbers in October — unless, that is, demand requires extra shipments — the Golf R Wagon takes all the technology from the Golf R hatch and Audi S3 Sportback, but adds a practical body to the mix."

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this becomes a standard offering locally. Don't buy into the limited numbers stuff, sure maybe the Wolfsburg will be, but this is definitely a marketing exercise for VWA.

If it proves popular enough, they'll bring it in as standard. By all accounts they're selling like hotcakes, and don't compete directly with any other VAG vehicle offered locally.

I don't know how well they are actually selling as the R wagon was limited to only 200 in the initial shipment and many dealers still have some available if you want to pay silly money.

I think that you'll find that nobody is discounting them as they still haven't arrived in their showrooms. I do know some dealers that have already sold their allocation of Wolfsburg edition (wagon and hatch). And yes don't expect the Wolfsburg edition to happen again as it's a limited Edition.

As far as whether the Golf R wagon continues after this special edition it's possible but I think it may be a bit like the 3 door Mk6 R. There's a small market there and once you've filled the initial numbers after that it's just a dribble.

Yeah I think I'll be putting in an order now for the Wolfsburg R wagon and not going to worry about waiting to see if the standard R wagon becomes available. I can't seem to find any interior pictures, reviews or video of the Wolfsburg R Wagon though. Have any actually landed in Oz yet or has anyone got links to pics, videos etc?

They are due to arrive at Port Kembla on 15 September and should be ready at dealers a week or two after that. The interior is the same as a standard MY16 Golf R. Here is a link to an in depth review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0hF8wgRsGw
