Hey bkpr. I’ve just ordered a SE myself, due in 2 weeks. Interesting to read through your experience. I was told at the dealership that the self parking is not available in the R due to its turning circle being different to the gti due to the 4Motion? Hope that makes you feel better!

The only two things I don’t like about the car is the “piano black” gloss trim and the leather (I would love the alcantara from the Grid Edition). I’ll look in to dash kits to cover over the gloss.

Picked mine up late last week, definitely no self parking. Not that you need it as despite a large turning circle, the car is easy to park. Spent a bit of time around Healesville on the weekend and it is a hell of a lot of fun to drive in the twisties.

    Golf R Special Edition

Noice. I’ve got over the self-parking thing now The car feels better now than when I wrote my review, I think mainly because of these two things:

    1. I’m happy with all my dashboard settings and visuals and I’m fiddling with the car less. It now feels like *my* car.

    2. I’m past the sticker shock/is the car worth it phase and I’m in the enjoyment phase

    (3. Also helps that I have a handful of rock scratches and chips, so I feel more comfortable with driving it, if that makes sense. I have an OEM Lapiz Blue touch up kit which I’ll use over the winter.)

I still *really* wish the SE came in the grey; I’ve seen a few regular R’s in the grey around and it’s still my favourite colour for the GTI/Rs. Lapiz is a distant second, although I’d consider white next time if no grey is available.

    Anyway, it’s happy days still!!

Do you guys know if you can activate the honk
when arming the vehicle? - Yes, it may be annoying for some. I honestly don’t mind it.

Just left a deposit for a Lapiz Blue Special Edition with sunroof, pretty excited, going out of a stage 2 tuned c63s & being an AMG man for the last couple of years, I needed to free up some cash flow & needed a reliable daily driver & for the price the R ticked all the boxes, no real plans, it already comes with AK Exhaust, will tint the windows & get an intake kit for it & just enjoy the car I hope

JB4 is a nice addition once you get used to the stock power

Hey R snow, I tried to do this with my Carista. I managed to activate the alarm chirp on locking but not the horn. The alarm chirp is so quiet, it's drowned out by the clunk of the central locking. Maybe there's another way?
