    Golf R Mk7.5 4motion - Wheel Spacers

    Hiyas

Just a quick question to the forum in regard to fitting wheel spacers to the new Golf Mk7.5 4motion hatch. I fitted a set of 10.5mm and my dealer is telling me I have damaged the steering mechanics.

Has anyone fitted spacers to their Mk7.5 and experienced any error codes appearing in regard to steering geometry and/or damage to the steering components?

Many thanks for the reply in advance.

What's the basis for the claim of damage?

Use of spacers will cause issues if not fitted correctly and can ultimately change the characteristics of steering and wear rates on components. I expect on newer vehicles with more electrics this is potentially a higher risk.

Given they are not legal though I would say don't use them - why risk insurance over 10mm? Just buy a better set of wheels with the width/offset you want..

Did you bring this up as a warranty issue to them or have they just picked up on this ie at a service ?

Spacers will change the mechanical forces on suspension components which will fall outside manufacturers specs and may cause damage due to increased forces over time. I’m not aware of any modern computer gizmos on the Golf that would get upset with a 1cm spacer.

That said, they are completely illegal and surely don’t make your car look that much better. Just take them off.
