Hey all, it's been a while and I just wanted to ask if anyone has been successful in either getting rid of the noise or silencing it (even a little bit), without changing the downpipe.
Also, has anyone has been able to wrap the downpipe with something to stop whatever it is vibrating/resonating? The damn ringing still bothers me after a year.
Hi Guys,
I've got a MY15 R and mine has that rattling sound as well. I've always wondered what it was!? It's the loudest when the car is cold but is always there in the background particularly if you drive beside a concrete barrier. Does not bug me too much but still curious.
Refer GTI40 rattle thread- looks like VW have finally recognized a fault and are replacing offending turbos.

It is the same ringing sound. It wasn't a one-off replacement. They also applied the 'fix' on my car by replacing the turbo. The TPI was updated stating that a turbo replacement was deemed to fix the issue by the VW techs/engineers.
Unfortunately, they have since re-revised the TPI as the turbo replacement did nothing!
Have a read of the ring customer care thread on vwgolf. I've posted my experience on there.
Hi All,
I've posted something similar on VWGolfAU, but figured it's worth posting here as well.
I've been following this thread and others like it for a while, even more so after my Golf R developed the rattle under load between 1500-2500 RPM.
At 2439KM, I put my car through for a warranty service. Going through the invoice, the warranty work was performed in conjunction with TPI 2041451/2. The warranty work took about a day and a half (also had a window switch issue which contributed to the time taken) but I can confirm that since the work, I've had no rattle.
I checked my turbo revision before and after the warranty work to document the issue (pictures available on request):
Old: 06K 145 722H
New: 06K 145 722T (also listed in the parts listing on invoice)
I've done a bit more research and found that since the H revision, there has been 4 further revisions according to APR in this post - N, P. S and finally, T. It's still early days and only driven the car once since pick up, but I do not have any rattle!
I know I'm more likely to be the exception and not the rule so I'll keep you guys posted. If anyone's in Sydney (Hurstville area), I'm also happy meet up, have you look and listen. It's a frustrating issue to say the least with half of us having to go Stage 2 to fix the issue on an otherwise amazing car so I hope this comes as positive news..
Edit: My build date: 04.2016 (not sure if this will come in handy)

It's never frustrating going stage 2 is it??
On a serious note, do you know if this revision has only recently rolled out because not long ago there was another guy going through the hassle of turbo replacement (which we so far knew was not addressing the issue) only to get his car back with the exact same problem and having to chase VW even further? ("GTI 40 Edition - rattle" thread).
I personally didn't want any dealership messing with the turbo on my brand new car - especially when it's not resulting in a fix - which is why I haven't taken any action so far but if indeed the rattle is dealt with in the T revision that's great news.
