Looks like Golf GTI and Golf R are not too far behind the std Golf re: release date:

New VW Golf R to get 276bhp | Autocar

Sounds like Golf R may be more torque rich than outright power, with added gear ratios to keep in that torque band for added useability & improved fuel consumption.

I hope the self-destructing 118Tsi + DSG combo will be tossed out. I really need a Golf but have no confidence in getting the current ones.

Twin charger is supposedly being replaced by a hybrid version with similar power. I think all the DSG Golf's will be 7spd now (obv not the same DQ250 box we have in the 118TSI), not sure if they'll be wet or dry clutch either.
