If they're going to guess how it could look they could at least try to make it look nice.

I kinda thought the MK7 GTI & R models would be a quantum leap from the MK6, hence the reason I chose to skip the model run (first time since the MK3!) Now its just a waiting game for the R.

Looks like a MK6 with the front of a MK4 Jetta :/ I hope these images turn out to be drastically wrong; can't say I'm a big fan of the MK6 and was hoping the next gen would perform and look a lot better. Just a waititing game from here I guess..

trying to remember where read recently the golf mk7 is just going to be an iteration of the current mk 6 on the outside. but apparently its on the inside thats its quite a radical step up. if I find a link to where read that, I'll post back

It's based on a completely new chassis...the new Audi A3 is the first to be released on the new chassis.

Judging by the new A3, I'd expect and hope that the mk7 appearance will yet be more subtle evolutions. I really hope VW do not follow the path of the other rivals and make it really agressive on the outside. It is an affordable subtle car, a mid range tourer, for daily use with the option to take it to the tracks for those who can afford the accelerated wear and tear.
Too many have already complained about the design of the mk6 and yet it is so common on the roads.
I also hope for better fuel economy with more power/torque, much more comfortable interior, integrated creature comfort functions, better practicality....last of all better service and support from VW.
The R or the GTI, you can't go wrong.
Fingers crossed that we don't experience another GFC and/or the government decides to drop the LCT by $5K which would potentially push a heavily optioned GTI into the bracket. The R would likely be slapped with the LCT from stock. Makes me sick.

Well if it's 100kg lighter than the Mk6 and more fuel efficient, who knows... hope it is a typo though

New Golf will probably look like this:

The article is by Gerog Kacher who is normally spot on with this stuff. Its in German , so google trans it and you can get some good info though translated articles are always a bit dodgy. Seems like he has actually seen the car.

Looks like it says the Golf R (and presumably then also the GTI) will have a 7spd DSG *shudders*

Ok most likely not the troublesome DQ200 model DSG7 but does that still make anyone think twice? At the same time, there are plenty of supercars with DSG7's so I guess that in itself is no big cause for alarm.

Going by that photo alone I'm not sold on the looks of it yet, time will tell.
