    Thanks.
    That’s made it easier.

I’ll have to take the diesel for a test drive, and whisky I’m not sold on the black plastic, I’m sure it’s there for a reason, and probably looks worse without it.

I guess the only other option would be a Passat alltrack, which i think is quicker, but quite a bit bigger.

The passat is quite a bit bigger and not that much more powerful than the golf

You can get a 206tsi in the passat but not in alltrack spec i have driven both the 206tsi passat and the golf R the extra size and weight of the passat certainly dulls the zip down compared to the golf R

The cladding is there because the world has gone suv mad and vw sell way more alltracks (esp in the usa) than reg wagons cause to the masses slightly raised ride height+4wd+black cladding = suv! and the name of the game is selling cars

Same thing happened to the outback i had one of the originals which was a liberty wagon with the same cladding/ride height job that vw have done on the sportwagon i loved it
Now to cater for the US market its a huge bloated barge of a thing which i would not touch if you gave me a free one (well i would take it but would turn around and sell it immediately)

The Passat Alltrack is only available with the 140Kw diesel but because it is a fair bit heavier it is in fact slower to 100kph at 8 seconds. Not really noticeable in real life driving. I haven’t driven one but would expect the Golf to be noticeably quicker in rolling acceleration though given the small Kw disadvantage and lighter weight. I think you will be surprised at how effortlessly the Golf Alltrack accelerates.

Sorry guys but I have question about the LED headlights. I thought the Alltrack fully optioned had Dynamic Lighting Assist. So I was surprised the other night when it didn’t even dip the lights automatically when a car approached.
Can anyone advise if the MY18 Mk7.5 has the correct lighting setup and if it is possible the turn this feature on with OBD11.
Thanks for any help in advance.

For some reason vw have not enabled this as a stock feature

But you can enable it through obd11 i have had it done (thanks rooboy) works fine as i drive to work at 2.30am every morning on unlit roo infested roads i don't have to constantly dip my lights for oncoming traffic makes the drive nice and easy

Make sure your windscreen is clean over the camera tho or it will give you a clean windscreen warning and turn the assist off

As Kachingg said, auto high bean can be enabled with OBD11. I did have a look at the steering assist coding too, but there is nothing that is apparent to change the feel to something R like.

That’s good news Guys I was hoping it would be possible. Just to be clear the manual refers to two types of smart lighting. The first they call light assist which auto dips the lights with oncoming traffic. The second is where the the beam is preferentially blanked by a shutter/s so as to allow full illumination of the road around the oncoming car, they call this Dynamic Light Assist. Do we have the latter, hopefully.
Im not too worried mind as the car is just brilliant overall and I am very happy indeed.

Thanks Rooboy for your comments and checking out the steering weight potential adjustment via OBD11 but I have to say I am getting used to it now and I’ve noticed it actually weights up fairly well at cruising speed.

Thanks again for all your help I really appreciate it.

Unfortunately it is the former - high beam assist, but it does work fine. Ours don't have the shutters for selective masking.

That’s a pity but still even the light assist is useful. Thanks mate.
Now all I need is the OBD11 unless there is somebody in the area who already has it. I gather it isn’t too hard to master?
