this was a sticking point for myself, wanting the 110tdi golf highline due to the blind spot monitor/rear cross traffic alert, and 4 k cheaper. I currently drive a fully optioned passat b7 alltrack, that has side assist, and auto tailgate.
the tail gate is a bit of a pain because i have had my keys in my pocket multiple times and it has activated the tailgate open, hitting things. Its a nice thing the electric tailgate but after having it i dont think a dealbreaker.
i tried a golf 7 with the blind spot sensor, in comparison to the side assist that is on passats, tiguans & touaregs, and decided that the blind spot assist doesnt compare in practicality to side assist, because the indication light on the side assist is integrated into the mirror housing, and the way it works, is superior to blind spot. Side assist you can use your peripheral vision, read the way the light is flashing, & react to that. With the blind spot assist i feel you have to look an concentrate to see the light in the mirror, then check anyway as it is only reactive if a hazard is immediately in the blind zone. There is a different distance side assist and blind spot measure to an side assist uses 2 radars to calculate if a colision could occur, that is, it measures the speed of the oncoming hazard.
I haven't had rear cross traffic, but do see that it would be good.
deal breaker is that you can option a golf with dynaudio, and the driving dynamics
