Fresh Air in Cabin

Hi

I have recently taken delivery of a new 2017 TSI highline. I am trying to work out how to get fresh outside air into the cabin via the dash vents without the aircon being on. The handbook is a little confusing in this regard.

All I get at present is air from the engine bay which is not ideal, I want cool air from outside.

Can anyone point me on how this is achieved?

Haha you left it too easy But in all seriousness, I've always assumed that when I hit the recirculate button to open the vent and then immediately turn the a/c off, it remains open. Could be wrong...

My other option has always been turn on the air-conditioning but have a/c actually off, and just blowing air on the lowest setting with recirculation off (allow outside air).

Don't think you have any other options here.

How on earth do you get air from the engine bay into cabin?

Usually you turn the A/C off and the fan on and the air will come from outside and never from the engine bay. Never heard of that one.

I assume its from the engine bay as its pretty warm. I will try the recirculate method. All my previous cars could blow air from outside just be having aircon off and the fan only on.

I cant see a way of having just the fan on in the car? it will only blow if the aircon is on as far as I can see?

Do you normally have your ac temp set say at 24 degrees or there abouts, and you feel the air coming out when you are just letting air in naturally is warm (say on a cold winter morning)?

If that's the case, it could just be the valve to the heating radiator is still open, allowing hot coolant to enter the heating core, warming up the air coming in. Try setting the temp on the ac to a cool setting (colder than outside), then turn the ac off. See if that helps.

The heating core is usually just a tiny radiator that coolant flows through when you need hot air, some amateur racers drive around a race track with their windows up and heaters on full blast for this reason "It gives the car a little extra cooling advantage" they say haha

You turn the air conditioner unit on, then press the "A/C" button. That will turn off the compressor, leaving the fan to blow ambient temperature air.
