Did you compare both with the factory warranty, the terms available on your comprehensive insurance, and your rights under consumer protection? I couldn't find anything above what's already available that persuaded me. Happy to be shown the light though.
In 2014 and earlier the Allianz one was offered by VW Australia as the "factory" option, hence I was comparing those two products. I didn't look into it from the other perspectives you mentioned, though I wouldn't have expected help from comprehensive insurance? And I'd rather the dealer just agreed to a claim than have to battle it out in VCAT.

I did put in time researching, because I had heard about the dodgy ext warranty products out there (such as NWC). For Swann there were some good reports (on this forum and others), and I was ok with the bad reports (ppl coming off bikes, or expecting cover for things the PDS explicitly excludes, etc). Maybe I'm just too easily persuaded

What annoys me is why they don't offer 5 years 100,000km as standard. Hyundai can do it, Kia can do 7 years, Renault does 5 years, Holden 5 years. It's supposed to be a premium product so they should be confident enough to back their product. Particularly given VWs issues of late you'd think they'd be doing all they can to give buyers confidence.

When the time comes for me to replace the GTI this year there is a god chance it will be another VW but I will be pushing them hard to throw in 5 year factory warranty. None of this dealer warranty bollocks. I don't need any extra kilometres, just the time.

As someone who has dealt with Swann at a corporate level, i'd trust the Allianz one that VW sell as their own more

It's very disappointing to me that we can't rely solely on the contract wording to make direct comparisons, but also need to consider how the insurer/underwriter deals with clients, which only adds complexity and confusion to the end client.

I've seen identical wording applied in 3 different ways by 3 different insurers, just based on their legal team's interpretation of the contract. Thankfully we had contacts in the right places to have the bad decisions overturned in favour of the client. But this really shouldn't be necessary.

At the end of the day, it's good to have it, and I do have it, but I'll keep my fingers crossed in hope I never need to use it (like with any other insurance I have).

We got the extended factory warranty on our car. Interestingly it was 1499 if bought before registration, and 4k if fitted to an already registered vehicle.

Tobes - more insulting than that was the fact Skoda were doing five years for a long time there as a bonus as well. I guess to be fair most genuine competitors are still doing three..

I didn't know VW were passing off an Allianz insurance policy as a 'factory' warranty. It isn't.

If it isn't genuine factory then I'd spend the money on a driving holiday and have some fun.

Sounds like any of the aftermarket warranties are more trouble than they're worth, that's for sure.

I received an email today from a dealership I've had the Alltrack serviced at a couple of times, offering an extended warranty. I called for details.

Swann issued 4 star - $1980 or so, with limits on each claim
Swann issued 5 star - $2470 - the same a the new car warranty - no exclusions.

If I could get the 5 star detail in writing, I think I'd be keen. Sounds like another 3 years of confinant motoring, or 2 years, and sell it with one still remaining.

    Thoughts?

    Thoughts? Read that fine print..

And enjoy taking that Alltrack on a nice holiday - $2,470 is enough for a few nice driving trips.

There are varying reports on the Swann ext warranty product - worth having a read on this forum and whirlpool.

If you're keen, then look up Leaseworks and give Kerry a call. If I recall correctly, I was quoted $2250 for 3 yrs of the Swann 5 star warranty by the dealer. Kerry was able to do $1750, which in the end the dealer matched (and included a free 5th year service).
