My warranty is about to expire and I was looking into purchasing a Eric Warranty through Werribee Volkswagen. They have since closed and have been taken over by Gateway Volkswagen and no longer offer a Eric Warranty. Just wondering if anyone knows a dealer still offering this warranty?
Cheers.

What are people paying for the 2 year Allianz extended warranty?

The amount of money you pay for most of these extended warranties is not worth it, IMO anyway. You are already covered by Australian consumer law which kicks in after your manufacturers warranty ends. It's called Statutory Warranty.

Are you sure? I could never find a answer on this.
Guarantees and warranties for used cars | Your rights, crime and the law | Queensland Government
When they apply
Statutory warranty covers you when the vehicle’s:
- odometer reading is less than 160,000km
and- date of manufacture is less than 10 years before the sale date.
The warranty expires after 3 months or the first 5,000km.
When they don’t apply
The following vehicles do not have a statutory warranty:
- vehicles that are out of the warranty period
- motorcycles
- caravans
- commercial vehicles
- vehicles being sold on consignment for a private seller
- vehicles that can’t be registered because of their design
- vehicles that are on the ‘written-off’ register.
I dont think so That is what you get when you buy a car second hand from a car yard. Is limited by time and kilometers
The consumer warranty is that a thing should last for a certain amount of time and that is what is covered by Consumer Law and will vary depending on what is being discussed Eg a pair of Jeans wont be expected to last as long as a pushbike.

Is this what you mean
"You buy a motor vehicle that comes with a three-year or 100,000 km written warranty outlining what the manufacturer will do if there are certain problems with the vehicle. This is a warranty against defects."
Then there is the" Statutory warranty" that Carsales MUST give you if the car has done less than a certain KM's and is less than a certain age as when you buy a second hand car with 3 months warranty which is a Statutory warranty
What I was referring to is this
Consumer guarantees | ACCC.
That means that anything has a finite life which is usually a lot longer than the warranty period and if it should not last that long you may have a case against the manufacturer.
Eg they have suggested life spans for different appliances and if one breaks down badly within that lifetime you may be liable to still have it fixed or get a partial refund. So if your car blows up 2 years out of an original warranty you may have a case under consumer law to have it fixed because it didnt last as long as it should have. Therefore extended warranties are a waste of money

Did I misread the topic? The post is in MK7 Golf forum section and the first post mentioned the VW dealer, so logically, I thought, that we talk about a new car soon to be/or is just out of its original factory warranty.![]()
It was never my intention to mislead someone that there's statutory warranty for a car which is close to 10 years or close to 160,000km. IMO, it would be very unreasonable, if it was otherwise.

It got to debating the worth of extended warranties and you replied that after the end of a dealer warranty that this happens
"You are already covered by Australian consumer law which kicks in after your manufacturers warranty ends. It's called Statutory Warranty."
You are correct that you are covered by Consumer law but it is NOT called a Statutory warranty as posted by Jozh and I
It is called a Consumer guarantee as per here
"Under the Australian Consumer Law, automatic consumer guarantees apply to many products and services you buy regardless of any other warranties suppliers sell or give to you" Under that you should get similar rights as an extended warranty without the cost.
Statutory warranties are what you get with a used car from a licenced dealer and only apply if the car is under 10 years old and less than 160km and are for 3 months??? and then the above MAY apply if you are lucky.
Therefore you must go back to get satisfaction under a Statutory warranty within the 3 months whereas under the consumer gurantee if your nice VW blows up at 5 years old because of a faulty piston or similar you have a claim under the Consumer Guarantee.
