My TDI110 applies the park brake automatically whenever the car is parked (+ whenever it stops, which can be an embarrassment at times, such as when only needing to move a few CM.)

    From the Golf Mk7 manual:

Automatic switch-on of the electronic parking brake if not activate properly when the driver leaves the vehicle:

The electronic parking brake switches itself on automatically in the following instances when the driver leaves the vehicle:

    * When the vehicle is in gear positions D, S or R or if the selector lever is in the Tiptronic position.

    * When the ignition is switched on

    * When the vehicle is stationary

    * If the driver door is open

Again Hillbilly, at least Idle was referring to a Golf Mk7 and not another model...

I fully realize that and wasn't the only one nor the first one to comment on another model I will however unsubscribe to this thread so as not to upset any one in the future

Hillbilly, you were right about having to have AutoHold on for the EPB to activate on it's own. (I just tested that myself in the 110TDI)

I just think you need to point out that your car doesn't match the thread title. If it was in the general forum or non-specific, I wouldn't have pointed it out. Nevertheless, the manual does say it's meant to auto-on the EPB if you meet the conditions specified. Obviously, if you've put it in P and walk away, it's not going to activate. Not what I would have expected honestly!

    Electronic Hand-Brake...

Was driving along today taking my dad for a spin in my Golf R, and while I was doing about 60-70km/h he decides it would be a good time to play around with the buttons on the centre console and activated the god damn e-brake!

He almost instantly disabled it and there was a very quick warning that flashed up on my dash but it was for a split second and I missed what it said... I did feel the car slow when he pressed the button but it was only for about 1 second.

Is there a chance something might have been damaged or did the computer save me from my dad?

LOL, always knew those ebrakes were a pain in the bum, never in the way your Dad tested it though
I believe the brake is intended to be suitable for stopping a car with failed real brakes, so no harm done I wouldn't think.
    Did you read your manual?

I did have a look but it wasn't too informative.

    It said two things:
    1. Activating the parking brake while driving will aggressively slow down the vehicle along with the driver pressing the brakes (I wasn't on the brakes).
    2. Accelerating while the parking brake is activated will result in the computer deactivating the parking brake.

My guess (hope) is that the emergency brakes began to activate and then instantly deactivated as I was still on the gas pedal.

Also I've had to issue my dad a warning and temporary ban from stepping within 5m of my vehicle.

In oz we call it a park brake or hand brake.
Lots of our cars do not allow you to use it while driving...it is a dog or latch and not a friction brake.
