Dynamic Light Assist on MY20 Golf R mk7.5 ?

I was reading the info about enabling DLA via OBDEleven. However I'm wondering if my Golf already has this enabled?

Under Vehicle > Settings > Light settings there is an item for DLA and also adaptive front lighting system.


Can anyone confirm this is already stock enabled?

What should I expect to be seeing the headlights doing when driving if this is the case?

IIRC on my Golf R (matrix LED headlights) I have to be going above 80kmh and push the left stalk forward to start DLA/AFLS (might need the light switch in the Auto position - mine is always set to Auto anyway).

If there is no street lighting I get the blue headlight symbol showing in the active display, indicating it is enabled and active. If another car is in front of me the matrix headlights block out that portion of high beam to prevent dazzle (works for both cars going the same way as me and also oncoming traffic).

If there is any street lighting it automatically switches to low beam and the headlight symbol goes grey (enabled but not active). When you get to a road without street lighting it will automatically switch to high beam.

NB It won't work in Eco mode (yet another reason to avoid Eco).

There are a number of videos around demonstrating it.

If you want to use manual high beam push the left stalk forward twice. A single pull will flash the headlights for as long as the stalk is pulled back.

Hey Gregozedobe, thanks for the info. I did notice the other day the headlights auto switching to low beam with associated grey symbol when entering an area with street lights, but I didn't notice the matrix light changes with oncoming traffic, will have to find a chance to try this out. But from what you're saying, sounds like it should be functional already, no OBDEleven coding required.

When you start the car with headlights on auto you lights should swivel up and down and inward and outward and then go up to full beam and swivel inward leaving a vertical edge on the inner side of the beams.

Yes, it's quite the fancy dance they do on start-up. Most noticeable when parked facing a wall or similar

Yes, I've noticed it do that when I start it in the garage. That would seem to indicate I have the matrix LED headlights? I will have to try and pay attention next time driving at night on a highway to verify the DLA component is doing it's job. It's just a bit tricky to check as I need to have high beams on and don't want to accidently dazzle oncoming drivers if it's not working, hence the query here.

They arent the flash matrix like Audi have They just swivel to miss the car in front and if one coming they dip that side as well.
If you push the stalk right forward presumably like the Tiguan you get a little A imposed on the high beam blue light If you leave that on they will do their thing

My R definitely has matrix (masking) headlights. I think the matrix has 5 controllable segments It quickly blanks out the portion of the high beam that would dazzle a car in front of you, but keeps the light on the rest of the road. It works quite well, and feels much safer when driving with bush on the side of the road (it at least gives you a chance to avoid any lurking 'roos or wombats)
