Do "wet keys" work on golf mk7?

I'd like to buy a "wet key" for use in the ocean. The idea is that I'd get a key cut, without the microchip, to open the door. The key would not need to start the car, just open the door.

Does anyone know if this will work with the new safety lock feature?

If its anything like the wet key system on the Audi then I don't think the lock on the door detects if the key has a chip or not so I don't see why it wouldn't open the door provided there's no proximity sensor or anything of the sort

    EDIT

I could be wrong since the Audi wet key needs to be placed inside a wet key adaptor to start the car so maybe the key does have a chip in it

I answered my own question. The wet key unlocks all doors no problem. The alarm goes off when you open the door however.

I'm following this thread with interest. I hope they get on and make it and make it waterproof.

Interesting thread - I was trying to think of how to keep my remote key dry & came up with an idea to fit it into 3 small zip lock plastic bag/sachets of which I go through plenty at work. Haven't tested it yet though.

Nice. Might check this out.. Seems big for my boardie pocket at first glance though. Gotto get the ruler out!

Yeah it's on the big side but I can scrunch it in. Biggest issue was I only just realised by new boardies don't have a key rope! WTF!? I didn't think to check...
