You can't void the whole warranty just because you've fiddled with one component of your car. Mind you, if something electrical were to fail, you'd be guessing who they would be blaming...
Of course, this wouldn't be an issue if the dealers could actually DO the work we want them to do (at a reasonable price). It's the whole dealer servicing vs 3rd party servicing thing again. Work be qualified personnel should uphold the warranty of anything done to the vehicle. (And obviously, the qualified personnel then needs to warranty the bits they've installed...)

How does this affect the price? Is the price lower now?
I have had the Discover Pro 8" in my new MY15 (14 build) Golf R for about a week now. I initially HATED the 5.8" screen in the MK7, it stopped me initially from buying one. Once i found out that someone could retrofit the 8" i jumped.
I arranged to have it fitted the day i picked up the car (at the dealer in fact). I was considerably apprehensive as it is NOT a cheap option, and i didn't know if there would be any problems/drawbacks with the unit as it has to be imported from Europe and converted to work properly here.
I can gladly report after a pretty solid work out that there seems to be no issues that i can find anywhere in its functionality. It works EXACTLY like it would if it was fitted to a car in the UK.
1. Radio works great, i ordered a non-DAB unit, but the radio station images can be uploaded, which looks great.
2. Bluetooth works great with my iPhone6, super clear call quality, streaming audio, including from all apps like spotify, iTunes Radio, full access to all music on the iPhone including skip forward/back. Hell it even shows the album art from most songs!
3. Plays DVD, CDs, music off SD cards, will import music and videos off these into the Discover Pros onboard 12GB storage and plays these really well, all searchable.
4. Voice control button works (its a mute button on the 5.8") with good control of lots of features.
5. Sat Nav works great, it interfaces with the screen on the dash to display directions.
6. Car control functions - this was a big question mark for me. I can say that it all works fine, can control many settings of the car, also the selection of the drive modes works fine.
Overall i am very happy i did this upgrade. As far as i can tell there is no downsides to doing the change other than the price. The Discover Pro 8" is a $3500 option in the UK and this cost me about a grand more once i got the guys from Euro Car Upgrades to fit the unit for me.
Traffic reports don't seem to have any entries, but i think there is a coding fix for that from my reading on various forums. I don't really need it here in northern NSW.
I have one of the VW Plug & Play Helix subwoofer upgrades on the way, but the programming dongle is proving difficult to get hold of. I will keep everyone informed if it works out.
Oh, i though of another thing other than traffic, there doesnt seem to be anywhere that i can activate the speed signs on the MFD. This would be great in this world of speed cameras and ridiculous variation in speed limits.
Does the normal Discover 5.8" do the speed sign display?
