hi liquidforce,
can you advise if you are able to supply the map disc for discover pro or the part number so i can search for it? Do you know a dealer who is friendly with removing component protection if a unit is purchased from you?
booba.
Yikes, $499+ for component activation is an issue.
Can't see any AU$1000 units on eBay. Would also be concerned about the source.
I'm still attempting to find a buyer for my Golf 6 - looks like in the process of awaiting delivery of my new car, the old one has dropped about $5k+ in value which might make it no longer cost effective to upgrade to the new one once I factor in the cost of a Discover Nav Pro and there's no way I am getting behind the wheel of a new Golf with that ****ty 5.8" system
Is there a market for the Discover Media navigation units?
Hopefully someone bites in the next week or two.
What sort of supply issues are we seeing on the Nav Pro at the moment?
^ i'd suggest that if the Mk7's R's Discover sat nav is that much of a deal breaker stump up a little extra $ for the base S3, better interior including nav. (Overall I was fine with the Discover system it does the job, and the overall value package and sharper/grunty drive of the R > S3)
Let us know how you go with each and individual dealer in your area. It would be good to have a database of dealerships who are reasonable and want to help
I'm probably going to purchase the pro off you and get hold of maps with the part number you supplied then see the local dealer who i know the general manager of service.. hopefully will get somewhere.
if I could get an Audi S3 wagon, then it would be a no brainer... (other than the cost!).
Has anybody else gotten the Pro going yet? I'm about to pull the trigger on the Discover Nav Pro and the centre console module to allow me to install it. I've found a dealer who claims they can do it but they've never seen one of these before so the risk is that they get stumped.
I've been made aware of some potential issues with warranty, though - as the Discover Nav / Pro is considered to be a significant component of the car, replacing it with an "unauthorised" part can cause potential warranty issues. I'm not sure what the ACCC would have to say about this - calling Volkswagen Australia was a brick wall (there was nothing in their script for this so it was a "no, sorry, we have no idea").
disappointing...but that's ur views.
with regards to skoda - VW Australia controls every aspect of the what skoda models r sold here, including the pricing, stock, std equipment and available options.
they are not trying to promote the skoda brand over their own.
vw aus is making it very difficult for aussies to buy the new octavia by forcing many to wait for 3-6 months for a standard spec. they are not allowing skoda dealers to keep floor stock, and more importantly, vw aus haven't increased their build allocation numbers (for the australian market) at the factory.
plenty of vw owners have bought skodas, 8" screen or not.
and there isn't much of a difference between the golf and octavia - new and previous generations. most of the components (suspension, engine, interior) are identical. its the body panels n switch gear that differ.
they're even more identical now thanks to the MQB platform.

Genuine VW Golf 7 8" Discovery Pro Sat Nav kit OEM Euro Car Upgrades
We sold our Golf 7 so have no chance to experiment with this any more.
Happy to let the DAB+ unit go without any surcharges.
Have a look at the video one of our clients has put after DP retrofit when VW germany refused to activate it for him:
