DAB radio in Golf R 7.5 anyone?

My Owner manual mentions DAB radio (as well as FM and AM) is available in the Infotainment system, but I can't see the option to select it. Maybe it's not in the Australian cars but I wonder as DAB has been broadcast in Oz. with a bit of trialling since 2009.

Is it something that needs enabling somehow?
cars (chronological) Morris850, Morris Mini DeLuxe, Cooper S, Mazda 1500SS, hard times so some old Holden, old Falcon Ute, better times so second hand Lotus Elan +2 (6 weeks, hopelessly unreliable) Chrysler Valiant Charger 770, second hand Datsun 260Z + 2 auto, Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo, Nissan 200SX turbo auto for 20 years(wonderful car burning ZERO oil after 200,000km & no problems when sold.. should have kept it), Toyota GTS 86 auto, now Golf R Mk 7.5 DSG built Aug2018, white.

Knowing VW you may have to get the radio recoded by a dealer , also you might be better to ask this question in the Golf section as this is mainly for Vans etc , but it cant hurt to ask I suppose .

Make sure that your radio is DAB first.
    HW number should tell you.

Well DOH. Sorry I didn't realise I had strayed into the Vans area. I will repost on the Golf course.

Unfortunately VW refuses, for whatever reason, to order radios with DAB+ capability. Yes, all VW infotainment units are capable of receiving DAB+ however in Australia, the hardware is missing i.e. antenna and wiring harness. You cannot retrofit unless you purchase a substantial retrofit kit and additional coding. VW Australia will not do this for you.

They must be "saving" it for a future "new feature" or upgrade option on future models. Beats me why they skimp on stuff like this when most others offer DAB. Maybe paying off dieselgate fines?

I was a bit annoyed on why Volkswagen won't supply as standard DAB+ radios until I started using android auto with my Radio app. I can listen to any station anywhere clearly as long as I have mobile reception. Better than the DAB in my other drive, as this cuts in and out in some environments I need to drive through.
Station announcements is a non event for me as I usually have maps displayed.

Give it a few years and DAB+ will be like CD players in cars.

Yea, I agree. Still, it's annoying.

I have DAB but I bought the radio which is a VW radio from OS with it in. I understand VW has not enabled as their thoughts are why should we when you can stream via apps like the Radio App

...???? Because not everybody has an unlimited data allowance on their phone which would enable you to stream... but I guess that thought never crossed the big cheese’s mind on his high salary
