Thumbs down cracked LHS mirror. any help?

    hey guys.

i accidentally cracked my LHS mirror LED strip by 1mm while exiting my garage..

it caught on the point where the LED strip points off off the mirror by 1 - 2mm and cracked the plastic off in that corner by about 1 1/2 inch and some plastic clip / attachment inside the housing looks cracked off too.

after inspecting and testing if it still worked ( led strip still works fine) , I taped the corner and sealed where its cracked / exposed and put the mirror cover back over the top into place. will do the job for now hopefully.

i've started to look online for side mirror housing cases or replacement LED strips but cannot find much.

does anyone know of the exact part or know of where to get a replacement LHS side mirror led strip for a golf R Mk7 or a new housing for the mirror.

i've seen 1 LED strip in particular on ebay but not sure if it will fit

    crisis averted.

ended up pulling the LED strip off and comparing part no's with some that are being shipped from china.

Phwoar - that's a massive win! Would hate to see what VW want for an entire mirror and/or casing. Reckon you saved a motza there.

yeh i reckon too thats why i didnt even bother asking them.

Would have been ATLEAST $100 for the LED strip and they probably would have wanted to replace a part of the housing if not all of it because of the cracked screw tunnel.

Not to mention cost of labour for a 5 minute job from vw ( estimating $100+ in labour) lol.

Probably would have been $200 - $600 for the job in total depending what they would have wanted to do

    In reality..

the LED strip cost $18.50 to be precise..

$2.50 for some superglue to glue the screw tunnel back in place when it cracked off with the LED Strip... and $5 for some tape to seal it off and preserve it until my spare part came...

whopping total of $25 for home repair and approx 15 min in total including gluing time.

I reckon you're way, way underestimating the OEM cost there. I remember being at Subaru parts counter at the local dealer when a lady came in asking for a price on a Forester mirror with housing, having obliterated hers parking. From memory it was $585 - and that was approx 13-15 years ago.

yeh if they wanted to replace the whole thing it woulda been close to $1000 for sure

but just for the parts i fixed / replaced i think $300 - $600 with labour
