    Cold day. Dead battery

    Hi friends,

What success have people had having their Golf 7 battery replaced under warranty? I’ve got a 2015 R Wagon. Battery totally dead. Won’t hold charge.

I parked it at the dealer today in Coffs and asked them to sort it out.

What is the likelihood of me being successful with this under warranty? It’s only 2.5 years old!

50/50 Mostly a battery would be a consumable like tyres. Don King might be in a good mood today though

Hardy, I would be more concerned as to how. If the car is only doing very short trips this will reduce the battery life. Regular long drives 60-90 mins will maintain it beyond 6 years. Could also just be bad luck and a cell has collapsed.
Apologies Hardy, I should have checked the accuracy of my info.

If it's not holding charge, ie you've popped it on a charger for 18-24 hrs then a cell has collapsed and you might be able to push for a replacement. If you end up having to get one yourself, ensure that it's got a very high CCA rating and suitable for stop/start.

There’s been a spate of them here with this cold snap. A colleague’s 2015 GTI has her battery die here yesterday. Pleasantly they replaced it under warranty so I am hopeful.

IIRC VW's with stop/start have a somewhat sophisticated battery management system (BMS), so when replacing the battery you need to input some info about the battery so the BMS knows its capacity etc. I don't know the details of what/where/how, sorry.

It needs to be an original or a technically correct substitute My Passat Stop start battery was $415 at a discount from the dealer and was more for an equiv from Battery World.

Strangely my wifes Polo is 7 years old and only gets used for shopping and longest run would be 20km and battery is just starting to be reluctant to turn it over. Luck ????

Car needs to be told that battery is new and dealer can do that easily especially if its the same one thats replacing the old one.
