Question Is buying a new MK7 Engine worth it? If so where and how?

I've been told that my Mk7 likely has crankwalk and I'm curious if I should bother buying a new engine or trade the car in at a dealer... Help!

First ive heard of a Mk7 engine having crankwalk. It did happen occasionally on the Mk5 and Mk6 GTI and R but mostly only on heavily modified and/or abused engines, and generally on cars with a manual transmission.

Assuming this is an accurate diagnosis by your mechanic, a replacement engine + labour will cost you probably $6-8k. It's probably wise to get a second opinion from one of the many VW specialist mechanics in the Sydney area before committing to anything.

Like Lucas most of the "crank walk" issues I have read were for Mk7/7.5 cars with a manual transmission, but IIRC (but I might be remembering incorrectly) most were cars that had aftermarket clutches installed.
