Avoid taking your golf to the dealer for warranty work.

Avoid taking your car the the dealer if at all possible.

The A/C in my Mk 7.5 Golf R failed 3 weeks ago. The fault codes said no gas.

Took 2 weeks to book into dealer (Bill Buckle Brookvale) NEVER DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE

There was no gas in the A/C, they recharged it and charged me $157 saying they could not find a leak, thus was not warranty.

I said seriously !!!!. This car is less than 12 months old, is 1 year into a 3 year warranty has done only 7000k, all the A/C gas is gone and your telling me there is no leak. I attempted to explain the laws of physics. If a pressure vessel once had gas in it and it no longer does there MUST be a leak. His eyes rolled back in his head.

At this point I was starting to get upset.

I convinced them to put some die in the system. They told me to drive 5000klms them bring it back. It will take me 10 months to put 5000klms om the car.
After some heated discussion the dealer indicated BUT there was no guarantee offered that I would receive a refund when the leak was found. In fact the body language and hesitant nature of the service attendant made me feel no such refund would ever be forthcoming.

It is clearly the policy of Bill Buckle to avoid warranty work and make some money on the side.

    Do you believe this BS.

Today I heard back from VW Australia.

I was told this to my face by the VW Representative. . "If the gas disappeared from the Air conditioning system that does not mean there is a leak" Can anyone on this planet believe that ?

"If they cannot find a faulty part then there is no fault and its not covered by warranty". To me this means warranty does not cover faulty workmanship only faulty parts. If the dealer says they cant find any leak then there MUST be no leak. If the dealer is incompetent and does not even bother looking for a fault then that action is supported by VW Australia.

I said "what if it all leaks out a again in 3 months and they cant find a leak?" She said I would be charged again.

So this is VW Warranty. If all your brake fluid disappears but they cant find a leak and you kill someone because of brake failure then its not VW's problem.
If you think about it this is a really smart way to provide warranty. If you cant (or dont want to find) a fault then there is no fault.

How do you deal with this kind of bold faced lies from companies.

Unless the a/c system was under-filled from the factory, then there simply must be a tiny leak somewhere. If it goes empty again, i would be taking the car to a VW specialist (or automotive a/c specialist) to diagnose, as my experience with VW dealership service dept is that they are as useless as tits on a bull.

Australian consumer law works hand in hand with vehicle warranties. Do some homework and you may find it works in your favour. Fit for purpose and acceptable quality/ repair come to mind. You may be eligible for reimbursement for the re gas if a fault is found by an independent workshop (plus the independents fee)
I'm sure your A/C is designed to work for far longer without a re gas.

    This ^

Tell them you will taking the matter up with the ACCC, that may change their mind. That a/c gas didn't just mysteriously disappear for no reason.

While I 100% agree you got shafted and you shouldn't have had to pay a cent, your suggestion that you shouldn't take your VW to a dealer for warranty repair is frankly rediculous.

You could simply pay the 100 bucks and drive more then see what will happen.

Empty again? Your dealer and Volkswagen can not deny any further and you will get your money back for sure.

Chill and don't be mad on spending $100.

Thanks guys for your support and comments. This matter is still on going.

I put the question in writing " If the A/C stops working again and it is found the gas is all gone, and you cant find a leak, will I be charged again ? The reply in writing was "yes"
