Just because I'm new here doesn't mean I'm new to forums.
And I just read through 10 pages of someone misspelling the same word over and over and it was grating.
Anyway, this whole thing has been ridiculous and I can't believe that a dealer would not only make you pay for a re-gas, but fob you off like you didn't understand how A/C systems work.
Ok guys, here is the hopefully final part of this War & Peace saga.
Got my car back again to day.
The A/C had again stopped but no leak could be found by tracing the dye. They supposedly brought in an expert who found the leak in 15 minutes. Mounted on the firewall behind the heat shield is the Tx (or expansion) valve. There was a lot of oily residue round it but no visible dye. (have you worked it out yet ?).
The valve and all associated pipes were replaced in accordance with VW's request. Recharged and all seems good.
I asked to see the Faulty valve (with my trusty UV lamp) but was not allowed.
The end truth of this is, I had a leak they did not put dye in it as they said they did. If so the leak would have been detected quickly, certainly after 2 weeks of driving.
Can anyone tell me what is the advantage of deliberately setting out to deceive the customer.
My problem could have been fix the first day it was at the dealer.

The only rational explanation is that they didn't want to own up to their errors and incompetence, let alone admit that a customer may have actually known more than their in-house "xpsurt technicians". This seems to be increasingly common in all walks of life, with politicians particularly prone to the "deny, deny, deny" approach, even after it has become very obvious to all concerned that they cocked up big time.
Hopefully VWA only paid them for what they should have done in the first place (put dye in, recharge, find leak, fix it - once), and not one extra cent for all the extra faffing around they put you through. That way there is at least a financial penalty for their incompetence.
Fingers crossed it is now properly fixed.

It all seemed good when they gave the car back last time also. BTW, you have no proof of your accusations and putting them on a forum is not exactly the brightest thing to do.

As I had suspected, this dealer did not make the effort to properly diagnose the issue and left you high and dry.

Calling people liars on a public forum is never a good idea no matter what you think you have, just ask those who have finished up in court over such matters. If the problem is fixed what other action are you going to take as the complaint has effectively been rectified no matter how long it took. I have sat in on a few tribunal hearings BTW.
