Attention MK7 Golf R owners: are you missing an engine cover?

So I went on my first VW cruise the other weekend and it was great.

Up until everyone wanted to see under the bonnet!

Turns out the front black plastic shroud may be missing. See pics below comparing a GTI to an R.

Thing is, the dealer today told me all their Rs are missing it.

    Anyone else got it?

Not a massive issue, but I thought it was interesting.

If your talking about the inlet mani cover - then i dont think the R engine comes with it.

    Cost.

I can't see a reason why you couldn't fit one yourself.

Perhaps the R version of the engine has some differences in the inlet manifold shape/design and the cover doesnt fit?

Might be to dissapate some heat or something due to the bigger turbo. Or its part of a slight weight saving. But most likely its just cheaper to not fit it as it serves no purpose!

They stripped it down for the 'hot weather climate'.

Does everyone else with an R have the R on the engine cover. My engine cover is exactly like the GTI one for some reason complete with the red TSI rather than silver.
