Apple CarPlay maps

Hi
I have a 2018 Golf 7.5 Highline (with infotainment package).
I also have an iPhone 8 and use Apple CarPlay. With iOS 13 Apple CarPlay is even better, and an interesting maps feature which I’d like to learn about is the following.


After being out for the day, I get in my Golf to go home (but I could be going elsewhere).
My CarPlay automatically shows me the route home and tracks it with GPS only and without voice direction.
I like this feature. Of course, if I am not going home I cancel this.
I say GPS only for two reasons:
1. if I use Siri to have Apple CarPlay maps direct me to a location, it disables Golf instrument panel navigation.
But the routing directions to home shows in Apple CarPlay and Golf navigation also works on the instrument panel. Good!
2. We’ve switched off mobile data mid-journey home, and still without voice direction, maps seemed to recompute a new way home.


Of course, if I use Apple maps to go to a destination, it will give route options, voice directions as usual.


Question: Is it possible to find routes to other destinations using CarPlay on my Golf infotainment screen, without using mobile data, and without voice direction (ie without turning off voice direction explicitly).


We are still testing out this feature (and Apple CarPlay on the infotainment screen looks great and is very functional) but my explanation above reflects my current understanding. But I can't find anything about this.
