So I did some digging, and for everyone's benefit, I'll put my findings up here.
I spoke to VW first, who weren't quite sure, and said they'd call me back. So I spoke to a few tyre shops, none of them have the equipment to perform ACC calibration, and they couldn't tell me if it's required or not.
VW finally came through and informed me of the following:
TL;DR:
Yes, it is true that a calibration may be required if your wheel alignment is really bad (if she's pulling hard). They said 9/10 cars don't need to have ACC calibrated when a wheel alignment is performed. The dealership I spoke to don't actually have the equipment, stating the work is done by their affiliate (wouldn't tell me who, no surprise there).
I was quoted:
$35 for wheel rotation
+ $77 for four wheel alignment (no ACC calibration)
+ $154 IF ACC calibration is required on top of the $77.
So there you go. Mine is not pulling, so I'm just going to take it to the local tyre shop to get my wheels rotated, and alignment checked / adjusted if necessary.
