2017 my18 golf r

Hi ..I am considering a 2017 MY18 Golf R, 25,000 kilometres regular services in fact over serviced. The car is in excellent condition...currently listed at drive away $50,800 which is of course too much....I think.

Where there any known issues with 2017 MY18' that I should be aware of that were rectified in later models ?

Some of the early MY18 Rs had an issue with a faulty aux pump in the DSG. There was an official "campaign/recall" which sometimes ended up with a complete replacement DSG.

Thank you for the info. I spoke to a VW technician and he said

"some of the early DQ381 7 speed equipped cars have a recall against them for a software update, this carries out a self-check of the auxiliary pump and detects if there is an issue- the pump is them replaced if there is a fault found. The transmission is not replaced under this recall.

This only applies to some early DQ381 cars".

He mentioned a recall code of 34K1 ...however it doesnt show up on the vin check via the net, nor is there any info i can find on the net.

I suspect that VW technician is not telling you the whole story. I have read several of reports where there was a catastrophic failure of the DSG AFTER a VW dealer installed the DSG software update. This failure only seemed to affect some of the DSGs affected by the software update, not all. But a replacement DSG was definitely required, and at the time there was a shortage of DSGs so some owners had to wait for some time to get their cars repaired. I have paid close attention to this issue as I have an early MY18 R (built June 2017) with a DQ381 DSG that is included in the campaign/recall.

Do a search and I'm sure you will find some more info.

ok thanks for the extra info. I have actually decided that a 2019 MY19.5 GTI with factory warranty is a better and cheaper option in the short term.
Will wait for the MY20 R's to come back in price "one day"

Sorry to hijack - but have you had this recall done? I also own a late 17 MY18 7.5R and it has this recall listed. The dilemma is that my car is tuned & modified a fair amount. I've been researching about this recall and it doesn't look good like you mentioned with the outcome of needing a new DSG not too uncommon from what I've seen.

My car drives great with no codes etc. and hasn't even hit 60k, but am super hesitant to take it in for this recall as well if it flags that pump error which would mean repair needed, would I even be covered by VW?.... The box is no joke for $$$$ so I'm just kind of sitting on.

No I haven't had the recall done on my R. I have read several reports that warranty has been refused for some cars with tunes (ECU & TCU). I have Auto stop/start coded off and am hoping that will avoid the issue with the aux pump failure.
