    2016 92TSI Manual - unable to select 5th and 6th gear!

    Hi everyone,

I've recently purchased a brand new 2016 92TSI Golf in manual, and 800km in I'm experiencing major transmission issues. While driving, stationary idling or having the car turned off, I intermittently (now more often than not) am unable to select 5th or 6th gear. It feels as though there is physically something blocking the shift, and no variation of force, clutch feathering or RPM make any difference.

The car was given to VW in Werribee and they defaulted to "checking and adjusting" cable linkages. 30kms of driving after these adjustments I was again unable to select anything higher than 4th gear.

The car is again with VW and I have been given a loan car until a solution is found. My service report (now with the dealer) noted that Volkswagen TIP (fault database I assume) is aware of this issue and that a "long term solution is being investigated"

I've come here to ask if anyone else is experiencing the same issue and if so, found a solution, as this issue is SEVERELY ruining the experience of purchasing my first new car.

Any replies and advice will be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Jacob

I lost complete faith in Werribee after they gave me back my car after a repair without the engine completely put back together... Then told me that i shouldn't have bought it in on a Friday as it was obviously a 2 day job!

I know this doesn't help, but i think they put too much reliance on the apprentices...

You're heading down the right path. It'll get fixed/sorted under warranty.

It is a growing issue with dealerships putting apprentices onto jobs that should have a qualified mechanic (and then charging top rates). Not much you can do about it except take it back until it gets fixed. Fellow forum member had an Audi S3 with a dodgy gearbox from brand new. Gearbox was replaced under warranty and it's all good now.

Just be happy that you have a loaner and that their car is getting wear and tear/km put on it rather than your new car
