$2k for one wheel? Wow
You can get a full set of aftermarket wheels for $2k.
Have a look on eBay/gumtree/etc, can probably find a Brescia 2nd hand for $500?
Hi All,
This'll be my 2nd post in 2 years. I have a white MK7.5 Golf GTI named Yoplait.
I hit a pothole quite hard (Qld). The shock was violent enough to turn the wipers on and give me a mini heart attack. I did an external check of the car and there seemed to be no damages. However, I wanted to make sure that there were also no damages underneath the car (I'm new with cars). I got told the bad news today by VW that the front left wheel was damaged and needed replacement.
I have tried to research the cost of repairs and new wheels identical to what I have (19" Brescia) but there is next to nothing online. Can anyone here let me know what would be the average cost of such repairs as at the moment. VW has provided me with a quote for $2,220 incl. GST - freight from NSW & install 1 wheel (just seems high to me). That number was enough to cause a mild anxiety.
I appreciate your help and advice in advance.
Thanks,
Jush

Hi Jush, Wheel repair could be the way to go; there are plenty of wheel repair specialists who can weld alloy wheels and restore the roundness to them. Google your local area, I'm sure that you will find one. Much cheaper than the alternatives.- Cheers-John

Hello Everyone,
Thank you all for your advice! There is so much to learn in here. I will arrange for quotes from the wheel repair companies.
@opel126 - thank you for your recommendation. I have also received a recommendation for The Wheel Workshop (which is closer to me). The Google Maps reviews also look fine for that one.
@Shauno - I've tried all marketplaces but could not find 1 single Brescia wheel in Brisbane! I've found some aftermarket ones but they come in sets.
This next bit is only because I'm a curious person.
I've been checking these on youtube too. When a wheel is buckled, the wheel repair companies will heat the wheels and re-shape them back to their original form. How does the heating, stretching and banging affect the wheel structurally? If the same incident were to happen again, would the consequences be worse that the former incident? i.e. buckled wheel again or something worse?
Thank you again
Jush

HI Jush, A mate of mine has just had a buckled wheel on his Fiat Abarth fixed by the heating, stretching method. He said that it is just like any other form of metal fabrication and the metal appears to retain it's strength. That's not a technical answer, but from his observation of the procedure where the experts assured him of the strength of the repair. Cheers-John

I used them for major repairs and use Wheel workshop for more superficial repairs.

Thank you @Sharkie. I had already booked an appointment with the wheel workshop for today. I'll give it a go and will let you all know of the end result.
Thank you John. It would appear that it works. If your mate hasn't had the need to change and do rework on the wheels, then it's a good outcome.
Hello Everyone,
I brought my car to The Wheel Workshop at 8.30am and they finished the job before lunch time. Turns out VW Norris had swapped the front left wheel with the back so as to avoid an uncomfortable ride. The cost of repairs was $110 incl. GST.
Now time for another learning experience...
I started driving back however, I no longer remember the original feel of the car. While I could slightly feel that the wheel was buckled previously, I cannot tell anymore as there are so many bumps on our roads!! How can I test if the ride is smooth again? - other than looking for a freshly paved road of course.
I presume that if I can't feel any unevenness while driving, that should answer the question.
Thank you all for your help so far!
