GTI doesn’t have this issue. It GOES! So good
Must be the 92TSI then, I don't have that issue in the 110TSI manual. Very, very minor turbo lag easily fixed by pressing harder on the accelerator or shifting down.

This is a problem with all high volume fridge on wheels today. Minimum time and man-hours spent on electronics. The HW isn't bad in most cases except the programming simply doesn't have refinement and it's released to market with "good 'nuff" attitude. Go upmarket, the extreme end and you don't see Porsches with their PDK doing this bull****. They're all guilty of this, BMW, Merc etc. Yet the masses put up with it and as long as money rolls in, VW et al dgaf.
A "tune" is a moot point. Rather have 5 year warranty and get rid of it within 3. Transfer the remaining 2 to new owner as incentive.

Nope, not just the 92. My 110TSi Trendline 7.5 had horrendous throttle lag at low-ish revs in any gear. As I stated above, I actually timed it - the degree of throttle lag varied, but at worst it was a two second delay between pressing the accelerator and the engine responding. And I know it wasn't turbo lag because the pedal box improved the lag to (almost) acceptable levels.

Does your 110TSi have a tune? If so, which one? I'm assuming maybe this is the reason yours doesn't have the throttle lag? Maybe different throttle mapping?

I drove the same earlier today (optioned with drive assist). Had about 11,000km on the clock. Seemed very smooth to me. No power and no traction, but that's to be expected in contrast from the R, but a hell of a lot better drivetrain experience than my 103TSI. If this is still a DQ200, then it's certainly had some different revision gear go into it and/or different tuning, or perhaps it's still young enough to not exhibit any issues. Very impressed with what money can buy these days!

My 103TSI first exhibited issues around 4000km.

Can't say I noticed any real lag when the 110TSI was stock.

Guy Harding at Harding Performance did it a tune for me. I have used him for many years now (15 at least ) to tune my VWs.

Info on the Golf here Project 145TSI

The 110TSI is pretty quick when tuned, be close to a stock GTI in performance. Since it is a smaller engine with a smaller turbo, it will not be quite as responsive as a GTI but its not too far off. Obviously not close at all to the R .....

Adding more experience. For the first time couple days ago I felt like a bit more throttle response and changed from default driving mode (i think eco?) to normal. I toggled through them. You literally have to drive the DSG and apply throttle like a manual, except you have no control on clutch actuation. This thing was revving up to 2-2.5k and slipping the **** out of it. These modes are only useful taking off like a snail from a stop or in motion like an open road I assume. Car has 1450km on it.

Have you taken it for a good long drive yet on a road with some bends and hills where the car isn't just sitting in 7th? It helped the Mrs 7.5 Comfortline settle down after many short city drives where she tried to drive it like her old conventional auto.

    I love driving it, it's like a GTI-lite.

The big problem I have found with negative DSG reporting is that it mostly comes from people that only have experience with torque converter autos. A DSG doesn't respond to inputs at all like a gearbox with gentle torque converter slippage. They soak up throttle application mistakes that a DSG amplifies. Some people just can't get used to it and are better off with a torque converter based auto. The simple truth is DSG's aren't for everyone.

FWIW in the family we have had 5 x DSG equipped cars , 3 x dry clutch and 2 x wet clutch over 7 years and the only issue was faulty electronics in one mechatronic unit. Not one mechanical gearbox issue in any of them. As usual posts are about the negatives whilst the positives are experienced by the silent majority.

    Cheers
