I brought a 2019 dsg golf for the Mrs earlier this year. So far its been fantastic. I knew about the 7speed dsg issues but i figured if VW are willing to back it with 5 years warranty then something must have improved.

One thing i have noticed is that it paradoxically seems to get moving quicker and with less hesitation in D mode. In S i get a lot more hesitation before moving. So i just leave it in D.

All the assist things you can turn off and it is great on fuel and fairly nippy.

Would have loved a secondhand gti but i lost that argument 😓

This. Except, when that warranty needs to be used. She'll have to deal with VWAU's less than stellar track record in terms of honoring warranty and service. Enough warning was provided.
The clutch slips on brand new cars as well as demos I briefly test-drove. Can't see it lasting long at all tbh. Waiting for the "ClUtCh iS a WeAr iTeM" from VW. Yes, a hydraulically computer controlled clutch on an otherwise "auto" box.

My experience with the VW dealers and warranties is very good. Have also send quite a few of my customers whose car I serviced right from the new and there weren’t any objection to honour the warranty. Even the guy with TDI Octavia that needed new turbo at 120,000km and in the 4th years, he didn’t pay a cent.

So they have learned from the 1.4 twincharger that knocked and pinged it's head off (literally) on the OEM tune running AU 98RON?
    Oil consumption issues?

Good point on the CVT Did VAG, well predominately Audi do anything about that or continue to bend over customers around 3k for something simply not fit for purpose.

Well your sort of stuck in some ways.. Auto was an non negotiable for her. Everything these days seems to be either something like a dsg or a cvt. I don't like cvt boxes. Figured vw have the most experience with the dsg type systems.

When its working, like it is now, its totally fine. Just have to hope they're true to their word with warranty.

Compared to everything else we looked at it, it was by far the nicest thing to sit in.

The slightest application of the accelerator results in a very jerky take off followed by a brief dead spot then off we go. Is this a normal characteristic of
the MK 7.5 with the 7 speed box ?
This is the reason I stumped for a GTI over the Highline. The throttle lag/dead spot was unbearable!

Its not really throttle lag, but the well documented DSG lag. Every single review in the press of a VW including that of GTIs and Rs make mention of this lag.

Though the 1.4T does have a bit of lag at low revs, easily overcome in the manual. Combined with the (dangerous in my view) DSG lag it does become more noticeable. A tune addresses this to a large extent (ECU tune and TCU tune for the DSG).

I had a manual 92TSI Trendline, the lag was nothing short of dangerous in some circumstances (ie rolling out of an intersection in 2nd and the accelerator did NOTHING for a good few seconds). Common problem, much worse in the DSG. I’ve spent a lot of time in an Octavia DSG, same issue. Test drive 110TSI Highline and R-Line, same issue.

GTI doesn’t have this issue. It GOES! So good
