I'm not familiar with the engine. I'd be downloading the VW manual for it from Erwin VW. Register and pay 7 euros to download for an hour
Got a 2014 golf 90 tsi with a CSXA engine. Planning on doing the timing belt soon as it's done 105,000kms.
Looking online at the procedure all off them talk about locking out the cams on the gearbox side and removing the cam gears. If I am only doing the timing belt, is it still necessary? Can I not just set the engine to tdc remove the tensioner and idler then slip the belts off?
First time working on this engine in particular , but have done numerous cam belts on Japanese engines before, most of which have been relatively simple.

I've found the following site with the procedure
Volkswagen Golf Service & Repair Manual - Removing and installing toothed belt, engine codes CHPA, CZDA - Toothed belt drive
and the following video with the procedure
YouTube
Both seem to match up pretty well. Got a set of the service tools on the way as well. Just trying to understand why it seems to want the cams locked out then the cam gears to be removed.
