    BMW M135i

    Hi...I have the opportunity to purchase a 2013, 45,000k M135i from a family friend.

All internet reviews rave about this car. I am interested in any opinions that forum members may have.

It is an amazing car. Fun and quick, though not quite Golf R quick, regardless of what BMW claims. I'd say it is probably a bit more entertaining though.

A bit more expensive to run that a VW (which is not cheap either) and very finicky about getting serviced on time and with the correct oil etc. The variable valve timing on the BMW's (since the late 90s) packs up if not serviced by the book (and by either BMW or a specialist - no cheapie mechanics allowed!). In this case since it is a family friend and low kms its probably OK, but many older BMWs (5yrs+) have "cheaper" services with disastrous consequences later on.

Is it the pneumatic or electronic wastegste version?

I owned a 2014. Which has the EWG and more power than pwg models.

Amazing fun to drive. Great handling and very tail happy. Unfortunately the electronic rear doff was a let down. It was kinda between an open and lsd diff. But besides the diff it was an awesome drivers car. And that straight 6 sounded so good.

Gearbox was one of the best I’ve ever driven. Makes the DSG look archaic.

Downpipe, 20% ethanol per tank, jb4. Made 274wkw at 5500ft asl.

It would be a handful to 120/140 with stock rear tyres and traction control off.

Bit late to the party. I have an M240i. A little different to the M135i of course, but not too much. If you want to be able to beat people off the lights or brag about 0-100 times, get a Golf R. If you want a car that's epic fun to drive, get the M135i. The smoothness of the power delivery and the massive amount of torque at almost zero RPM is something else. And with a bit of exhaust work that sound is unreal. I've had mine partially straight-piped and in sports+ mode giving it a bootful down a street lined with buildings it sounds like a supercar.

No I didnt, the owner hasnt moved interstate as planned due to Covid so it isnt for sale. However as I was keen to get out of the wifes 2011 118 tsi and give her my GTI so the k's would stop piling up I bought another BMW. I found a very low k (24,000) one owner 1 series coupe with every conceivable option in a rare Le mans blue colour....so thats now my daily for the work commute.

Observations are .....its slower than the GTI, the steering is much heavier, the ride from the 6 year old run flat staggered 18's is terrible. On the positive side with the M sport suspension and rear wheel drive it handles as well if not better than the GTI....the seating position is nice and low and it came with 4 years free servicing....all in all not a bad move ...and the MK6 118 has been sold.

ps i did drive the M135i recently....very very nice.
