    Timing belt

Hi people, i dont normally post up about the obvious every day reocurring stuff, you guys keep that well covered. This one is a must and take heed. if you like me use timing belt kits from VW, although they really are good and can be quite cost effective, normally the Hydraulic dampner gets missed from the lit and is an extra item. Now , i cant stress enough the importance of it and the changing of it at the timing belt period, yes it adds to the cost but believe me worth the extra $150 or so, i use it every time so my customers dont worry.
Today i checked a vehicle at a place nameless and the timing belt had been done along with the obligitory tensioner and even water pump but didnt replace the hydraulic dampner. the new belt being new and strong and taut put new tensioner and the dampner lost pressure on start up the result a jumped belt and bent valves!!!!!! Please include it in your kits.
Said engine is a 1.8T Golf
$150 or new engine , you choose
    Cheers
Wasnt a pleasant one to diagnose

    Ever consider aftermarket?

Jmac - Ever consider supplying aftermarket timing belt kits? They are typically more than half as expensive and just as reliable, if not more so, than OEM kits. We have a timing belt kit for most any application. If you do maintenance on Vw/Audi's we might be worth a click? For what it is worth, our kits are incredibly well received and reviewed.

Yeah mate i do for sure, i had to diagnose this one after someone had done the repair already. which was a horrible one to call as you can imagine. Plenty valves bent and in fact took out a couple of guides yikes!!!! Anyway i totally agree with you there i fit the dampner even if it looks good, for the extra 2 bolts its a done deal mate

Agreed, when you come so far, doesn't make sense not too. 5 minutes and 50 bucks for 5 years of peace of mind! That's worth it!
