How much power are you expecting
Basically reducing "headache" in the equation. As said, If the ICM fails..basically a tow truck ride home unless you have a spare ICM.

The ICM would cost around 650-700 from a dealership, 200 excluding gst through HSY europarts.

Some guys in vwvortex reckons the car idles better and made more power when the plug gap increased. I'm sure you know which spark plug they(vwvortex members) used right?

Personally, I used Bosch FR5DTC and couldn't be happier. My idle was terrible before due to the richer mixtures but it's so much better now with the Bosch plugs. They have 3 prongs btw. Get them through eBay. 40bucks shipped.

Power? Well, to be honest..I'd be happy with 290-300hp at all 4 wheels at around 22-24psi..my TD05H 20G's compressor is rated to around 42lbs/min ie 640cfm. Was said to make as much power as a GT2871R...just a tad lazier on the spool.

Once I've achieved that...I'm aiming 330-350whp with a hybrid MHI turbo I'm planning to build once I've sort out some sh*t I've gotta go through with my work visa.

Here's a pic of the billet compressor wheel for that hybrid turbo:-

    old vs new

block is stripped, next stage is sending it to machinist and boring pistons as well as balancing all the parts
and cleaning all the oil caked on the block from the last 12 years

Are they gonna use a deck/torque plate when reboring the block?

All high performance engine rebuild shouldn't skip using this when reboring(even honing for some).

What a deck plate/torque plate does is simulate distortion as if a cylinder head is torqued to the block.. The whole idea is to get a true "roundness" when the bore is cut open with the deck plate/torque plate in place..

The engine builder should know this but I'm not surprised he doesn't have a deck plate/torque plate as a high performance 1.8T engine rebuild would be pretty rare unlike RB26, SR20s etc which means no point in making one.

Here's a pic just to give you an idea

Integrated engineering sells them but shipping rates should be interesting lol

As someone with a modified Ko4 A3 myself..

Why go to all the expense with an A3.. why not just buy an S3?

    Either way, interesting build!

I tried selling the a3 last year as I got tired of it, but to sell it would have lead to bog loss given the existing mods and km, I then decided to upgrade the turbo to keep me occupied no way did I plan such a big build
